Igneous Rocks
Igneous rocks are formed when magma (molten rock deep within the earth) cools and hardens. Sometimes the magma cools inside the earth, and other times it erupts onto the surface from volcanoes (in this case, it is called lava). When lava cools very quickly, no crystals form and the rock looks shiny and
glasslike. Sometimes gas bubbles are trapped in the rock during the cooling process, leaving tiny holes and spaces in the rock. There are about 700 differents types of igneous rocks. Afew examples are basalt, granite, pumice, obsidian, tuff, diorite, gabbro and andesite.

PUMICE:
Pumice is a ightweight igneous rock. This is technically
classified as a glass because it has no crystalline structure. Pumice is the
ONLY rock that floats in water. This rock is often used to help aid in the
removal of dead skin cells. It comes in a variety of colours like green, yellow
an blue. It can be found in Greece, Italy, Hawaii, Turkey, United States as well
as Chile.

BASALT:
Baslt is a fine-grained hard rock. Basalt is pretty
common on earth, and there are alot of basalt of the Moon and other planets like
Mars and Venus. People used basalt for early choppers and for grinding stones
and grains like barley and millet.

GRANITE:
Granite is an igneous rock. Granite is a type of hardy stone that
can be used in houses for counter tops and floor tiles. They are usualy black
and white. An interesting fact about granite is that it can be cleaned with
simply soap and hot water.
